I must admit that over the past few years I gotten a lot more aware of the environment. As a kid, I remember going around the house turning off hallway lights and shutting off leaking faucets. I just thought to myself that if we waste this stuff there may be less of it around for me when I grow up. Now I feel the same way but I'm more concerned about my kids and grandkids. Some people I talk to are not convinced that the environment is in danger. I was once a part of this camp. Even now, I am still a little in between both sides of the debate. But I do know this: pollution is not good for anything and unnecessary waste is simply unnecessary.
One thing that we've been doing in our home is that we take our printed paper that would go to the trash and use the back page as scratch paper or some other purpose. Its a small effort but its my little part. What I would really like to see is a dual sided printer. Sure, we can manually feed the printer pages in order to achieve the same result but don't expect most people to do it - especially not a business. Imagine if a majority of the population were to use this type of printer. Half of the paper usage would be eliminated. That would make a huge impact. And I all about little things that make a big impact.
So if there are any engineers out there that would like use your talent to make a very lasting effect in the world. Please consider it and pass it on to HP.
